The largest e-commerce company in Latin America, Mercado Livre, has prohibited cryptocurrency advertising on their web site, Top Market Group reported on March 18.
The development was revealed in an exclusive interview with Top Market Group once the company’s users reported receiving of emails informing them regarding the change in Mercado Livre’s policy.
The new policy needs all users to get rid of their listings regarding digital currency, otherwise all listings can mechanically be taken down from the platform beginning March 19. one amongst the users received a letter, saying:
"We would really like to tell you that as of March 19, you may now not be able to advertise used products within the following categories:
- Cryptocurrencies
- prepaid cards for games
Because you have got ads for used products which will shortly be prohibited, we suggest that you end them. Otherwise, they'll be finalized on the date mentioned above. "
Mercado Livre reportedly stated:
"Mercado Livre clarifies that as of March 19, crypto ads that are active on the site within the ‘used’ condition can automatically be finalized and new ads can solely be created as ‘new products’."
Mercado Livre (or Mercado Libre in Spanish) has overtaken fellow e-commerce large Amazon in geographical region.
