Ex-PayPal COO, Reid Hoffman, Joins Lightning Torch Bitcoin (BTC) transaction relay

LinkedIn co-founder and former PayPal COO Reid Hoffman has become the newest participant within the Lightning Torch Bitcoin (BTC) transaction relay, Blockstream chief executive officer Adam Back confirmed on social media on February. 26.

Reid, whom back seemed to select because of his lead investment role in Blockstream, is the 224th person to “hold” the Torch that began its journey round the Bitcoin community in mid-January.

Each participant sends an invoice for the transaction via the Lightning Network, adding 10,000 satoshis to the balance before sending it forward.

Twitter has become the platform of selection for informing the wider community regarding who will next receive the Torch.

“Great to work out Lightning fast Bitcoin use cases and adoption,” Hoffman commented upon receipt.

The entrepreneur failed to mention who might inherit the Torch from his management, resulting in multiple suggestions from varied sources concerning who would be an appropriate candidate.

Tesla founder Elon Musk was once more a favourite candidate, having antecedently become the topic of a lobbying effort by others, as well as the Twitter user called hodlonaut, who started Lightning Torch.

Aiming to increase awareness and check the resilience of the Lightning Network, the Torch has already received public backing from Twitter chief executive officer Jack Dorsey.

Before Reid, another high profile participant within the Torch relay was monetary derivatives giant Fidelity Investments, that received and passed on the Lightning Torch on February. 22.
