Cryptocurrency Exchanges’ Bank Accounts Open- Granted by Chilean Anti-monopoly Court

The Chilean anti-monopoly court has once more granted protection to native cryptocurrency exchanges by forcing banks to keep their accounts open, monetary news outlet Diario Financiero according January. 2.

According to a recent statement from Buda.com — one amongst the crypto exchanges stricken by previously upheld banking restrictions — the anit-monopoly court called the tribunal de Defensa de la Libre Competencia (TDLC) has control a poll, and most of its members voted in favor of the crypto companies.

The next few hearings are scheduled for February, once the TDLC can hear the testimony of each parties. The hearings are attended by Chilean prime officers, together with the country’s Minister of Finance, Felipe Larrain, Minister of Economy, Jose Ramon Valente, and also the president of the country's banks association, Segismundo Schulin-Zeuthen.

The TDLC has responded to a previous call taken by the Chilean Supreme Court in early Dec. The country’s high court then insisted that banks had legal rights to not offer services to crypto exchanges, as they're not regulated by Chilean law and can be related to money laundering.

As a consequence, Banco del Estado and Itau Corpbanca — the banks seeking to shut crypto-related accounts — appealed to the anti-monopoly court, urging it to cancel protection measures. However, in its current resolution, the TDLC processed that the Supreme Court’s ruling doesn't produce a judicial precedent to uplift any of the previous resolutions.

As Top Market Group  previously reported, last March crypto exchanges CryptoMKT, Buda.com and OrionX claimed that their bank accounts were frozen by many Chilean banks. TDLC presently granted them protection, and also the country’s Minister of Finance promised to return up with relevant crypto regulation as soon as possible. however, in Dec, Larrain claimed that the legal framework for crypto is still ongoing.
